AI in Disciple.Tools
-
We've been talking about AI and are curious what applications it has in ministry and disciple making. We're also wondering what use cases AI has in Disciple.Tools itself.
While AI is becoming more and more capable, it remains a tool.
We're looking forward to discovering how it can be serve us, while maintaining privacy and security.
Here's a couple things we want to try to get started:
- On a contact record, being able to generate a paragraph that summarizes the field and comment history.
- On the list page: The ability to get a list of contacts using text instead of clicking through the filters and choosing the right options. You'll be able to say "give me the contacts who have been baptized in the last month" and the AI will figure out how to transform that into the correct filters.
Please comment if you have ideas or questions. We'd love to hear.

@Corsac I think there are many in our org and greater community with significant security concerns with AI. There's a lot of great potential, but there's worry about the data storage and sharing - especially of the sensitive data that is stored in DT.
Will these things that are being started be done in a modular way where you can choose to not install them? I would love to see them as a separate plugin that people can choose to install or not vs including them in the theme and just turning them on/off. The latter would be a big concern for the very security conscious folks.

@CairoCoder Great questions!
Security and privacy come first and will be part of the conversations all the way through.
The plan in to start playing with AI in a separate plugin.
When the plugin is installed and activated an API key will be needed to enable any AI features.We'll be building out in a way that any of the AI services could be used. Those who want to enable AI features will have to choose which one they want.
The current big options (OpenAI and Anthropic) are powerful, but we do NOT recommend them for privacy concerns.
The most secure option would be a self hosted AI server. This will only be a good option for those with a lot of resources and tech knowledge.We're testing and will offer a recommendation of a service (or a couple services) that are secure and focus on privacy.
TL;DR AI features will be opt in.
